Not infrequently, we forget to switch off lights and fans in a room while leaving. We keep the key chain on a bank counter while withdrawing cash and forget all about it and search everywhere. We forget names, important dates and events and cut a sorry figure. (eg wife’s birthday ). brain cells are responsible for our memory and we have to keep them keenly active and exercised or else they will deteriorate. Some ayurvedic herbal medicines are reported to be good in improving memory by reactiving with brain cells but nothing has been conclusively proved.
To what extent the absentmindedness can cause havoc in a man’s personal life can be
seen from my colleagues example. Since he was suffering from bouts of absentmindedness. ( he used to think of doing of something but ended up doing something else) .he thought that his official life will be ruined if he commits some mistakes of serious nature.
Hence he wrote a leave letter requesting for a month’s leave left it on the table of his boss ( when he was away) and left. He did not want to discuss with his boss since he thought that the boss will discourage him from proceeding on leave due to staff shortage.
After returning the boss telephones to him and shouted ‘what is this that you want to do.?’
Colleague said that ‘due to illness and as per doctors advice only he has done so.’
When he returned from leave his colleagues were waiting to relieve him and wish him a happy retired life. Why ? thinking that he was applying for leave, he had written his Voluntary retirement application.
Bank employees have been waging a war for enhanced wages, with the government and the apex body of the banks called IBA. The last settlement expired in Oct 2007.
The unions sat together, broke their heads, and submitted their wish list for a huge pay hike, knowingly that most of it will be whetted down. After several rounds of talks and a few strikes due to breaking down of talks, there was a consensus for enhanced wages of 17.5 percent over the wage bill of 31.3.2007. More than the wage revision, what the employees were keen to strike a bargain was for a second option on pension. When the pension option was first given to the employees, many employees were not keen to avail the same since they thought that Contributory provident fund will fetch more returns than the pension amount. Subsequent events have proved this wrong. The interest rates based on which the huge returns were calculated started plummetting. Since then such employees have been bargaining for pension instead of CPF. At last the government has agreed subject to some conditions that the employees are ready to accept in the larger interests
of the staff members, since pension is a social security benefit. Thus one of the most important and eventful wage settlements in the annals of banks’ wage history has been concluded though the take home pay has not imporved substantially. some thing is better than nothing.!
